Admissions

Entrance qualifications, application documents, credit evaluation and the practical steps toward your individual degree plan.

Start with your goals and your experience

Canon considers applicants who want to increase their knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Its published admissions policy considers applicants without regard to sex, age, color, national or ethnic origin. Academic background and experience are evaluated individually to develop a personal program of study.

Your application, step by step

  1. Discuss your intended program and request the official application from admissions.
  2. Submit the completed application, applicable fees and academic transcripts.
  3. Document every claim for transfer, ministry or prior-learning credit.
  4. Receive an admissions decision and a personalized degree plan after evaluation.
  5. Review your Curriculum & Financial Agreement before enrollment and course access.

Entrance qualifications

The published entrance requirement is a high school diploma at registration, or consideration through the university’s Ability to Benefit route.

Ability to Benefit applicants

Mature applicants without a high school diploma, or who do not meet normal admission criteria, may be considered when they are at least 21 years old and have been away from formal education for at least two years. Conditional acceptance may include probation for the first three courses. Admissions confirms eligibility; acceptance is not automatic.

Transcripts and supporting documents

  • Provide an official academic transcript from each secondary and post-secondary institution attended, including institutions from which you request transfer credit.
  • Transcripts must show courses, marks and degrees awarded. The published policy requests them directly from the institution in a sealed envelope and does not accept faxed copies. Ask admissions about any approved electronic delivery method.
  • Include a certified, signed and stamped or sealed English translation when the original is not in English.
  • Submitted documents become university records and are not returned. Keep your own copies.
  • A program may also request a resume, student profile, statement of interest or references.

An initial credit listing may be used for evaluation, but supporting transcripts are required before graduation. Unsupported credits may need to be replaced by additional coursework and fees.

Transfer and prior-learning credit

Transfer courses must meet the published minimum of a C grade or better, equivalent to a 2.0 grade point. Courses are evaluated for their fit with the degree plan. Properly documented prior learning and ministry experience may also be considered.

Degree levelLife experienceMinistry experiencePrevious college study
BachelorUp to 30 credits; prior learning limited to 25% of required hoursUp to 30 creditsNo numeric ceiling stated in the published guideline; subject to evaluation
MasterNot applicableUp to 6 creditsOnly study above the earned bachelor degree; subject to evaluation
DoctorateNot applicableNot applicableNot applicable in the published credit-award guideline

These are evaluation limits, not an automatic award of credit or a degree. A bachelor-level awarded-degree recommendation requires separate university approval. Doctoral prerequisites and the applicable 36- or 60-hour route are reviewed independently of this credit-award table.

Study pace and course requirements

Your courses follow your approved degree plan. Canon recommends completing at least one course every three months; motivated students may progress faster. Confirm the pace, catalog rules and deadlines applicable to your agreement. Completion time depends on your background, program and circumstances.

For online study, use the assigned recorded lessons and materials in the campus. Course requirements may include lecture outlines, summaries, an examination and, for associate and bachelor studies, a subject-related book report. Follow the current instructions for each enrolled course and complete required submissions before moving ahead.

Repeating a course, dismissal and readmission

A student may request permission to retake an examination graded below C. A failed course must be repeated to receive graduation credit; the published policy records the higher grade.

The administration may place a student on probation, suspend or dismiss a student for unsatisfactory academic standing, progress, conduct or financial obligations. A dismissed student may reapply through admissions, but readmission is not guaranteed and requires written presidential approval.

Payment plans and published fees

The published financial policy offers payment in full at registration (Plan A) or a personalized payment arrangement agreed between the university and the student (Plan B). Request a written total and schedule before committing to either plan.

Refunds and transcript requests

The published refund policy provides for a tuition refund when a student withdraws in writing within three days of the date the course application is received. Fees designated nonrefundable are excluded. Obtain the current refund policy and confirm its application to your enrollment before paying.

Transcripts require the student’s written request. The published policy sends official transcripts directly to another institution, rather than to the student. Acceptance of transferred credit is at the receiving institution’s discretion.

Build your personal degree plan

Discuss your education, experience and goals with admissions. Request written confirmation of your program requirements, approved transfer credits and financial arrangements.
